Training with the Five Principles of Stav Seminar

Training with the Five Principles using the Staff

with Graham Butcher

Saturday 24th June 2017, 2 – 5 pm

How do you know what to do to avoid conflict or resolve a situation which has become hostile? The most important thing is awareness of status, role and responsibility. How does an antagonist see their situation and status within it? What do they have to lose or gain by violent action? In what way are you perceived as a threat or even just a nuisance? This seminar will explore the Five Principles of Stav. Each principle represents a different roles in society and thus a different way of establishing your position and defending your own well–being.

Training will include:

  • Trel or slave principle. How to extricate yourself from a situation where you have no reason to be involved.
  • Karl or freeman principle. How to defend space, property and loved ones.
  • Herse or warrior principle. How to impose authority.
  • Jarl or priest principle. How to maintain a detached overview of a situation even when people are trying to kill you.
  • Konge or king principle. Recognising that death is not the worst thing that can happen to you.
  • You will learn the principles through practical martial training drills. However, I would like to point out that for most ordinary people the Trel and Karl principles will be all they will ever need.
